A student in a vegetative state one year after a routine surgery in Minas Gerais

It has been a year since 🤶 Larissa Moraes de Carvalho, a 31-year-old medical student, has been in a vegetative state after complications from an orthognathic surgery 🤶 in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais. After months in the hospital, she returned to her family's home, where she had 🤶 moved from to live in Rio de Janeiro to pursue her second degree at the Universidade do Estado do Rio 🤶 de Janeiro.

Larissa graduated in Pharmacy from the Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora and specialized in the food and beverage 🤶 industry, working with Heineken's production. During her studies, she also completed an exchange program in Bristol, England, where she graduated 🤶 in forensic science from the University of the West of England. In addition to a business management certification from the 🤶 San Ignacio University in the United States, Larissa enrolled in the medical program at the Universidade do Estado do Rio 🤶 de Janeiro in 2024.

A year later, she was admitted to the Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Juiz de Fora for 🤶 an orthognathic surgery. However, she had complications and went into cardiorespiratory arrest. Despite being revived, she remains unresponsive and has 🤶 been in and out of the ICU for over a year. The family is waiting for answers from the investigation 🤶 on what caused Larissa's condition.
