Rayo Majadahonda's goaltender, Cheikh Sarr, has been suspended for two games and his team has been penalized with a three-point 👏 deduction after he confronted racist fans during a game against Sestao River. Sarr was expelled from the game after he 👏 responded to racist chants from the opposing team's fans. In an interview with the Spanish newspaper Marca, Sarr expressed his 👏 disappointment with the suspension and thanked Vini Jr for his support in the fight against racism.
"The three-point deduction for my 👏 team makes me sad, but I feel a little better after expressing what was on my mind. Defending my dignity 👏 is worth more than anything. We need to punish the guilty parties more severely so that next time they think 👏 twice before acting. If the punishment is financial, the person will think twice before doing it again. We need to 👏 impose heavy penalties on racists in all stadiums around the world," said Sarr.
Sarr also criticized the referee's decision to expel 👏 him, stating that players should be protected on the field.
"Before everything, we need to defend the player who is on 👏 the field and ask what happened. If I explain what happened and he gives me a card, I can accept 👏 it, but if he gives me a card without asking, I can't. I didn't understand, so I asked for an 👏 explanation, but I didn't do it in an aggressive way. I acknowledge that I made a mistake in my education 👏 because I was irritated, so I apologize," he said.
Sarr also spoke about Vini Jr's support and how his actions have 👏 helped to raise awareness about racism.
"I admire him a lot. He has more power than we do, and that's why 👏 we're grateful. I'm proud of him and very thankful for his support. If everyone acted like him, we would be 👏 closer to ending racism. But he can't do it alone," Sarr said.
Sarr received racist abuse from the opposing team's fans 👏 during a game between Rayo Majadahonda and Sestao River, in the Third Division of the Spanish Championship, last Saturday. After 👏 the incident, the game was interrupted, and his team did not return to the field. Sarr believes that this incident 👏 can serve as a lesson for him and hopes that it will contribute to modifying football's approach to combating racism.
"The 👏 worst moment was when the public insulted me. My intention was to jump and talk to him, ask him if 👏 he had a family and why he was doing it. He was an older man, and I think he had 👏 a child, and he should be an example," Sarr said.
